Internet Services Suspended: The internet suspension in the state of Manipur has been for more than 55+ days. Internet services were suspended since the 3rd of May 2023 and it’s going on till now. In the latest notification issued by the Government of Manipur, it stated that the suspension of mobile data services including broadband is extended till the 5th of July, 2023.
Why is the internet suspended in Manipur?
The suspension was due to the ethnic violence which erupted on the 3rd of May in the state after a protest was organized by the tribals in the hills against the inclusion of Meiteis in the ST Category.
Since then, Manipur is under fire, and the internet is suspended. The government said, “Some anti-social elements might use social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speech, hate video messages inciting the passions of the public which might have serious repercussions for law and order situation in the state,” in the previous notification.
Schools are Closed till the 8th of July 2023
The Government of Manipur has issued an order to close the schools till the 8th of July 2023 amid the violence in the state.
